Malaysia’s newest obsession: exercise!

Malaysia is a country known largely for two constant things: delicious food (along with sugary drinks) and sweltering heat. This dangerous combination often results in lower-than-recommended exercise, which is a huge contributing factor in Malaysia’s struggle with obesity and type 2 diabetes. Further, the post-COVID world has ingrained a lot of less-than-healthy habits which have kept us glued to our screens and off the walking trails.

However, Malaysia is a resilient nation. One of the ways this epidemic of obesity has been combatted is via organized running events.

Working up a sweat!

Two of the biggest companies in the event organization realm, Howei and JomRun, have built their businesses on creating fun, challenging races filled with incentives to join: team discounts, prizes for placing among the top of each category (cash and trophies), finisher medals, and both participant and finisher shirts. These races have built up a strong following for active Malaysians looking to stay fit, meet new friends, and collect their race goodies. In fact, it’s rare to go out these days without seeing a few 5/10/21km finisher shirts.

But if running isn’t your thing, Howei also offers plenty of other categories for entertaining events: hiking, cycling, swimming, pickleball, and more! JomRun focuses more on running (it’s in the name), but both are great options to check out if staying fit sounds like a fun time. Who knows, you may end up loving it!

Seriously what is pickleball?
